HBCU CONNECT Recruits Black Techies for Microsoft

Last updated: Thursday 5/29/14 @ 9:49 pm

This evening I attended a recruitment event for an information technology behemoth that was organized by HBCU CONNECT, one of the first online media companies to focus on HBCUs. Within five minutes after the presentations began, I knew with the absolute certainty of the little girl in the Wizard of Oz movie that I was neither in Kansas nor was I attending a Google recruitment festival. Why? Because there were too many smart black techies in the front of the room ... :-)

Last updated: Wednesday 5/12/14 @ 8:43 pm
Updating the comments by Sean Parker to Mark Zuckerberg in the Facebook movie, The Social Network, I just tweeted the following response to Diddy's request for help in writing his Howard University commencement address:
Forbes predicts you will soon be worth $1 billion. But $1 billion isn’t cool. You know what’s cool? $50 billion --

Morgan State's Hackathon 2014

Last updated: Saturday 5/8/14 @ 3:38 am
On Friday afternoon (5/2/14) I traveled from DC up to Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD, to observe the first couple of hours of Morgan State's third hackathon which began at 4:30 pm. The organizers of this important learning experience were Omar S. Muhammad, Director of Morgan's Entrepreneurial Development & Assistance Center (EDAC), who is a Morgan alum ... and Sam Henry who is a professional Web app designer, the co-founder of a company called "Given.to" (http://given.to), and another Morgan alum. By the time I left, 17 students, including three from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), had assembled into four teams.
