DLL Editor's Note -- This exciting one day conference in New York did for grown-ups what last week's My Brother's Keeper Hackathon (MBKHack) in Philly did for kids. Whereas MBKHack inspired black youngsters to aspire to become tech entrepreneurs, Tech808 inspired Hip Hop/tech entrepreneurs to learn from each other how to become more successful entrepreneurs. The event was archived with Eventify (rather than Storify), so users can browse through the 3,000 plus tweets and 450 plus photos... or quickly check out the most popular tweets and photos. The Tech808 homepage contains lots of info about the conference, its speakers, and the time slots and topics for each speaker's presentation.

DLL Editor's Note -- The five day, second annual HBCU Summit in Silicon Valley that ended yesterday evening (Monday 11/17/14) was organized by the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), the Association for Public and Land Grant Colleges (APLU), the Stanford Center for Professional Development, the National Center for Engineering Pathways to Innovation, and the White House Initiative on HBCUs.
Bringing faculty, students, and administrators from some of the nation's leading HBCUs to the Valley and providing them with opportunities to meet with high level representatives of some of the Valley's most prominent corporations, like Google and Facebook, encouraged HBCUs to collaborate with each other in the development of ecosystems within the innovation economy that will enable them to substantially increase their roles as providers of black graduates who are qualified to pursue successful careers as employees of leading-edge corporations and as entrepreneurs, not just in the Valley, but globally.
This year's summit included a wide range of activities, e.g., student visits to Facebook's and Google's headquarters; a student hackathon at Facebook (see the DLL's Storify); an evening that celebrated the hackathon's winning app that was also attended by numerous black technical staff from some of the Valley's leading corporations; presentations to faculty and administrators; faculty visits to Stanford's Engineering Center; and panel discussions at Stanford University.
