2017 National HBCU Conference -- Monday 9/18/17

Every year during HBCU Week the White House Initiative on HBCUs has sponsored a national HBCU conference in the Washington DC area. This year there was doubt right up until the week before the scheduled conference that it would actually occur. 


The Congressional Black Caucus, some HBCU organizations, and many HBCU leaders had recommended that the conference be postponed until President Trump appointed a permanent Executive Director of the White House Initiative. As will be seen from the tweets included in the storify for the first full day of this year's conference (below), a permanent Executive Director was announced during the conference: Mr. Johnathan Holifield, a  co-founder of a consulting firm, author, speaker, and former National Football League player.

The theme for this year's conference = "HBCUs: INSPIRING THROUGH INNOVATION, EDUCATION AND PARTNERSHIPS".
