HBCUs have once again lined up an impressive roster of featured speakers for their upcoming commencement ceremonies in 2014, including:This blog was established by the Digital Learning Lab to provide information that supports Black America’s efforts to close the Digital Divide. Its original focus on HBCUs has been broadened to include other colleges, universities, and community-based groups that enhance the computational thinking skills of Black Americans and the networks of successful Black techs who support each others’ efforts to achieve even greater success.

Installation of the HBCU Calendar
Last updated: Tuesday 4/29/14 @ 10:57 pm
The HBCU Calendar is now functional and can be accessed via the right-most tab at the top of the blog window on this page. It will display major academic events at HBCUs and related organizations -- conferences, workshops, commencements, etc. A link to the calendar will also be found in each edition of the DLL's "Weekly Dozens" magazine at the beginning of the "events" section. All events listed in the magazine will be more fully specified on the calendar.
Readers note -- Completion of "HBCU Lists & Profiles, Version 1.0"
Last updated: Tuesday 4/29/14 @ 2:04 pm
Data entry for the dashboard for Version 1.0, i.e., the first five columns of the table of the revised HBCU Profiles, was completed today (4/29/14). This includes HBCU Names and links to Websites (col 1), state (col 2), type of HBCU (col 3), links to online programs, if any (col 4), and Twitter handles & hashtags (col 5). Some Twitter handles could not be discovered ... yet, so we'll keep checking from time to time. Only a few hashtags have been entered, but more will be added as we become more confident as to which hashtags are really used by which HBCUs.

Catching the Online Waves
Last updated: Monday 4/7/14 @2:29 pm
HBCUs missed the last decade's first wave of black interest in online programs (2001 to 2010). Those of us who think that HBCUs not only made significant contributions to black higher education in decades past, but are uniquely positioned to make comparably significant contributions in coming decades must ensure that HBCUs do not miss the far larger second wave. The first wave was part of an American high tide; the second will be part of a global tsunami. Sunday, April 06, 2014
