Amidst
the stupefying haze of endless chatter in recent decades by suits and skirts
with high flown titles and pedigreed academic credentials about the importance of getting more blacks into STEM, more
black males into STEM, more black females into STEM, a grass roots
movement is surging into the foreground of black consciousness that is
tightly focused by a common sense understanding of the obvious
implications of the headlines in the Journal, the Times, and Bloomberg. This blog was established by the Digital Learning Lab to provide information that supports Black America’s efforts to close the Digital Divide. Its original focus on HBCUs has been broadened to include other colleges, universities, and community-based groups that enhance the computational thinking skills of Black Americans and the networks of successful Black techs who support each others’ efforts to achieve even greater success.

HBCU Symposium in Silicon Valley #2 -- March 2014
Last updated on Sunday 3/23/14 @ 9:45 pm - Eastern Daylight
In the Fall 2013 some HBCUs met in Silicon Valley under the auspices of UNCF to spur innovation and entrepreneurship by HBCUs in the kinds of entrepreneurial development of innovations that have made Silicon Valley America's most important center of high technology since the early 1960s, from Intel to Apple to Google to Facebook. In March 2014 fifteen HBCUs are holding a second symposium in Silicon Valley to build on the success of their first get-together. The second is described in the following article in Diverse issues (3/20/14):
Fortunately, some of the participants (and Internet observers) at both symposiums shared their comments on Twitter using the hashtag #hbcuinnovation. The following tweets have been posted under this hashtag so far in the last two days. Let's hope that more participants who are physically attending will post lots more tweets for the benefit of that those of us who can't attend ... :-)

HBCUs on iTunes U
Last updated: Thursday 3/6/14 @ 2:34 pm
Which of the 106 HBCUs are on iTunes U? The following HBCUs were found on the list of members displayed by running the app for iTunes U on an iPad Mini. As higher education becomes more mobile whether the courses are blended or 100 percent online, course delivery will shift from PCs and laptops to tablets, phablets, and smart phones. While iTunes is not the only mobile platform, it will probably remain one of the most important for the foreseeable future.
