DLL Storify of BLUE1647 24-Hour Hackathon and Youth Tech Challenge in Brooklyn NY

NY State Senator Jesse Hamilton and a number of other elected local officials formed a partnership with Chicago's BLUE1647 to organize this hackathon and youth challenge event, the first of its kind in Brooklyn, from 11 am on Saturday 12/12/15 to 11 am Sunday 12/13/15.

Black Self-segregation in Politics and Academia -- Part 3 (strategic partnerships)

In Part 2 of these notes, I suggested that most Black students are underperforming at most predominantly white institutions (PWIs), not just because they endure racist micro aggressions, but because they must strive for academic success without the benefit of the pervasive support networks of peers, teachers, tutors, mentors, and role models that sustain Black students at HBCUs.  


DLL Storify of Black Girls Code, DC, Women in STEM Panel -- Saturday 12/5/15

The Washington, DC, chapter of Black Girls CODE hosted its 1st Women of Color in STEM Panel today. This event was an educational experience for girls between the ages of 7 and 17 and their parents/guardians.  The young women heard from a panel of women working in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics (STEM) to discuss the significant gender gap in these fields in the United States.
